Jill Yancey | TELL(h)ER

South Carolina, United States

Words by Jill | I see you.

What does being part of the Teller Community mean to you?

I'm proud to be part of this community. It's filled with beautiful people and writers. I think of the line from Charlotte's Web, "It's not often that someone comes along who is a true friend and a good writer. Charlotte was both." I've found this to be true of everyone I've come to know within this community.

Why did you submit this particular message? There's always a story behind our writing, what is yours?

You encouraged us to submit the message we need for ourselves. I see you is a comfort for me. It's solidarity and acknowledgment, like my efforts, or my words aren't overlooked. But it's also the best expression of love. When someone gets you, and really sees you - that's everything.

Who would benefit from receiving this message?

Anyone and everyone. It takes on a different meaning from recipient to recipient. A mom to her kid, a child to their teacher, one woman to another, a co-worker, someone experiencing loss, one partner to another, it's universal.

Are you an aspiring writer, poet, or artist?

I am a writer. I also run TELL(h)ER Community alongside Azure Antoinette, and I am a big BeKnown fan. I love the aesthetic and messages of the cards, so it was a no-brainer to submit.

If you had to leave me with something about you, that makes you different, unique, special, what would it be?

My husband and daughter are sitting next to me so...he says I'm loyal, dedicated, funny, and fierce. My 7 year old daughter says I am super kind, have a tiny voice when talking to other kids, and sometimes I cuss. Ha!

How do you want to beknown?

As someone uplifting.
